This course of study will enable students to expand their level of certification and thus be marketable to teach at either the elementary or middle school level. In addition to being qualified to teach all four areas in grades kindergarten through 6, students will also accumulate at least 15 credits in one of the four areas so that they will be highly qualified in the state of New Jersey to teach, additionally, in grades 6 through 8 in one particular subject area. By combining these different areas of study, students will be able to develop a unique plan of study to achieve their personal and career goals. The Multidisciplinary Studies concentration seeks to provide students with a broad-based liberal arts education in four areas: English, mathematics, science, and history. Curriculum OverviewĪs they begin their path to becoming effective and skilled elementary school teachers, students in Rider’s elementary education program engage in studies that provide an academic background for those subjects they will be teaching. The elementary education program in the Department of Teacher Education prepares students for fulfilling teaching careers in America’s diverse society.
